Why I became a boudoir photographer in Indiana
I’m gonna tell you a little secret: I didn’t always want to be a boudoir photographer.
Gasp.
I know, right? But here’s the thing: I feel like it’s what I was always meant to do.
Being a boudoir photographer is more fulfilling than I thought possible
I honestly never thought I would feel this way. I never thought I’d be able to go to work, love every moment of what I do, and go home knowing I made a difference in someone’s life, like this.
I worked in corporate jobs most of my adult life before I found photography. I started my photography career doing wedding photography and remember thinking, “Could it get any better than this?” (It definitely could!)
Having flexibility in my career and control over my working hours was amazing, to say the least.
But when friends started asking me to do their boudoir shoots and I actually gave it a chance, something changed.
I wasn’t just working an amazing job that gave me control and flexibility. I was making a difference in the way that women saw themselves. I was a part of a transformation. I was able to take someone on a journey from being nervous about the idea of boudoir, through the first steps of shedding the shame and embracing their power, all the way to seeing their finished photos and falling in love with themselves.
I get to take part in the transformative journey of self-empowerment
Over and over again, women told me about the transformative power of their sessions.
They told me things like,
“I never thought I could look that good.”
“I was feeling better about myself than ever before, but after seeing my photos my self confidence has boosted to an entirely new level.”
“I didn’t think I could feel this comfortable in my own skin.”
And that’s just it. It’s not about the pretty pictures (although they are pretty freakin’ cool if you ask me). It’s about the experience.
It’s about two of us in an elegant room, laughing and throwing up a big F you to the shame you’ve carried about your body. It’s about laughing together whenever something weird or funny happens. It’s about dancing and posing and trying new things. It’s about you trying new things and feeling amazing about yourself for doing them. It’s about you seeing your photos and feeling in awe of them, then realizing it’s really not about how great of a photographer I am, it’s about how beautiful you are.
Why am I a boudoir photographer in Columbus, Indiana?
I was surprised when a few people asked me this question.
“But, why not somewhere else?” they asked. Maybe they were thinking I should move somewhere more glamorous like New York or LA.
My question is, “Why not be a boudoir photographer in Columbus, Indiana?”
This is my community.
It’s filled with amazing, incredible women. Some that I know and some that I don’t know, yet. But every single one of you is deserving.
Deserving of feeling beautiful.
